Just picked up my first Impreza outback sport, and I'm going through it making a list of things to repair. I notice this cable in the front drivers side corner under the hood. It's rusted and broken, and i can't tell if it's a hood release (the hood releases fine), or something else, because I can't find and diagrams that show it. Sorry if it's a dumb question, but I'm a bit stuck.
otherwise it's not too awful. Has some motor squeeks (I believe some bearings or a belt), rattles (heat shield, exhaust blow) and leaks (I believe is oil pressure switch). Will be my first car to tinker on since my teens/early 20s, so it will be nice to gets hands on.
Thanks for the help!
Yes, your hood "releases just fine", but only for another week or 2. When it breaks, you'll find out just how big a pain it is to open your hood without it!
