Default engine options for hawkeye sti

so next year i will be upping the power on my hawkeye to around 450-500bhp but im unsure of which way to go with the engine, i was going to replace the rods in my current engine and give it a refresh whilst its apart.

what would be needed to run a 2.1 stroker in my car? i was talking with a highly rated engine builder about this earlier this year and was told that unless i have a syvecs it wouldnt be possible as the 2.5 DBW cam triggers are 3 wire and the 2.0 are 2 wire and not interchangeable. also the front left hand cam pulley trigger is not on the 2.5. is there any other ecu that could sort this? really liking the sound of the link g4 ecu at present.

i do love the torque of the 2.5 but hate the feeling in the back of my head that at any point it could fail as the bore-wall thickness is wafer thin.

i think the 2.35 engine may be out of price range from what ive read.

i can budget around £10k for this at the minute.

Roger Clark motorsport

https://rogerclarkmotorsport.co.uk/store/product/617-rcm500-235l-closed-deck-block-short-engine

Sell up old engine and used towards rest of build/ donor parts etc. Budget probably won't stretch for the turbo capable but doing the main build the way u want then upgrading at a later date to get the power u want

thanks buddy, its something I've always wanted to do but had bad luck with last 2 imprezas so whilst I'm financially comfortable I see no reason for not doing it.

at the level your looking at a properly specced / built 2.5 with a CDB insert from AS Performance would be the way to go..............

Darton (or otherwise) liners are a massive expense and overkill at this level, CDB is far more cost effective and works

personally you would only liner a block you were trying to extract the maximum from or to recover a damaged block........

so a closed deck conversion is plenty for 500bhp then?

looking more likely that i will remove my current engine and split the heads from it and sell the forged bottom end to generate some funds to put towards a short block with the spec i require.

Surely a well built 2.5 would be better than 2.1?

hi

not really gave it much thought, it was built in august 2016 and covered 11k @352bhp with no track use just fast road use and so far had 4 oil changes

spec of the block is

2.5 closed deck conversion
mahle 2618 pistons
standard rods with arp rod bolts
new crank
acl bearings throughout
genuine subaru block seal kit

i will have the engine compression and leak down tested before sale for new owners peace of mind

thinking about swapping my 2.1 out for a 2.5 at the moment, that's unless I get rid completely and get something a bit newer.
