It could just be your turbo? It's maybe blown an oil seal, chucking oil into the cylinders, making it run rough?
Either way I'd say it involves dropping it off at a garage and handing over large sums of the folding stuff
Hope you get it sorted out

If there's smoke coming from the dump valve that suggests there is oil etc in the inlet side, oil from the turbo, which is also going straight down the exhaust, it's maybe fouled a plug up too, causing the misfire?
The other possibility is it's blown a valve, blowing back in to the inlet side?
or, like you say, it's done a piston, it's pressurising the block, blowing oil up the breathers into the inlet?
It's vey difficult to say without seeing the car, I'd still say it's gonna be expensive though

If there is oil up there, it is more than likley a melted piston. Too much boost, wrong fuel, can cause. It is unlikely it is the turbo, as they are generally very reliable more so on the older TD05 cars like your MY94. Depending on who is repairing, and the real damage done, can be expensive or very expensive to fix.
As long as the bore isnt damaged, cheapest way is to source a sec hand piston or 2 as required, and give the bore a quick hone to clean it up. This shoudlnt be too bad as there are loads of engines around with big ends fu*ked, and mint pistons. If need be, contact me, as I have some myself.

My engine blew a little while back & no one can give you an accurate fix cost as the damage cannot be accurately diagnosed until the engine is dismantled. My cost was around 2K (would have to find the invoice) but was qouted much higher from other people (3.5K to 4K) just for the rebuild & no other parts.
As the engine was being rebuilt I also had cambelt & clutch changed as well (no additional labour charge).
You can also look at replacing the engine but I did not do this would have changed details on my vehicle document.

If its a melted piston, I think that anyone with experience could tell in a matter of minutes, by visual checking and listening alone. Plug removal and subsequent compresssion test would confirm, but again, anyone with experience would already know. Your symptoms do suggest it, and it does happen quite often to "tuned" subarus.
