Unhappy Impreza GT 2000 won't start!

Hi, i'm new to this website and i was hoping to get some help. I recently bought a more or less stock GT and it broke down while driving a few days ago.. It has the ej20 engine with a recently rebuilt hedd and a new wire loom. the car always almost starts for a few seconds in the first try but after that it just cranks.. it is getting fuel and spark.. i have tried using spark plug wires and distributor from another gt and that wasn't it. I have also tried disconnecting the MAF sensor and that didn't do anything either. Crank sensor looks okay and all engine grounds looked good as well and i even made sure they were getting a good connection. Still won't start.. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

The next stage would be to check the compression?

Have you checked for a spark?

Does it have an alarm/immobiliser?

It has some ebay alarm system but i'm pretty sure it's disconnected. Could that have something to do with it only trying to start up the first time?

First off, do you have a spark?

If not, try getting the alarm removed and check again.

TBH, I'd have it to a decent specialist, assuming there is one on Iceland? Since you seem not to know your way round the car.....

Check fuel pump and connections.
Does the classic have a relay under rear seats that goes funky?

Beat me to it. Think it's just the fuel pump live wire under there that can intermittently short, due to corrosion or getting crushed(?)
