Default HELP!! Impreza won't start after rebuild

Hi people,

I've just fully rebuilt the engine in my 1994 WRX after the big ends went... The trouble is when I go to start the car I cant understand why it won't run - it turns over fine, its getting a spark, it has good compression and it is getting fuel up to the injector rail.

I think something isn't allowing the injectors to open perhaps some kind of fuel cut switch ? Also worth mentioning is the car has a Clifford G5 alarm - but this appears to be working fine ?

Any ideas are much appreciated...

Cheers,
Paddy

Check to see if the injectors are working. Are the spark plugs wet after you've tried to start it ?

Also, are you sure the cam belt has been put on correctly ? It wouldn't be the first time I've come across the wrong mark being used on the crank pick up, and it's 90 degrees out.

And just make sure you haven't missed anything obvious.

Mark.

Cheers Mark , Also would the fuel pump prime if the crank sensor was causing the problem ?

Also you can check the injectors are injecting by holding one with your fingers whilst someone cranks the engine.. you should feel them click..

As Mark says check the obvious... cam and crank sensors plugged in injectors plugged correctly.. black plugs (or darker ones are the rear of the engine).

If it is turning over, it is injecting, it is sparking then it must be something mechanical cambelt, or cams wise.. the cams exhaust and inlet fit into the wrong places.. and also left bank and right banks are marked up as sitting in the drivers seat not looking under the bonnet with regard to cams and cam wheels... worth a check if everything else looks fine.

Have you reused all the original enigne or are some parts replaced other than the bearings?

Yes it would prime.. you should hear the pump as you turn on the ignition for a couple of seconds.. however it might not run whilst cranking is the crank sensor was faulty. But you can rule that out if you have spark and injectors working.

Ok thanks for the help guys - I'm getting fuel up to the injectors but I'll test those tomorrow and check the timing and crank sensor... I'll keep you posted.

Ok lads just had a quick look again today - its getting fuel out of the injectors and its sparking and the plugs are ok. - So I can rule out the alarm and I reckon it could be timing ?

Time to check the cambelt..

Do you have a compression tester?

From turning over I can hear the car blowing out of the exhaust so I presume it has good compression - will test tomorrow though...

The other thing is I changed the heads for STi 3 heads ... Would this cause any problems ?
