Default Ethanol , Methanol Gains

Looking into the advantages of running a mix in the tank either 10% or 20%

Wondering what kind of gains folk have seen ?

Of course the car will be mapped to suit,

Add a Graph too if possible,

Plenty of folk have ran it from what i can find, its the gains

Ethanol is safest from what i read.

I understand Meth is slightly worse but still at small levels 20% max I've yet to see hard evidence of any faults caused solely by the fuel ?

I've seen several pumps taken out of tanks that have failed after being eaten.

Simply put though you don't need it unless your going big power.

At any power level it will see good gains in spool and performance so i wouldn't class it as for big power only.

The ability to add pretty much all the timing you want with zero knock being one of them.

Plenty of cars run on 100% E85 with zero issues,

V-Power with 20% Bio-Ethanol is used in alot of cars

Would be good to hear from folk who have used it personally,

Pumps fail on V-Power alone, can i ask how was it confirmed to be the fuel that caused failure ?

Again power is irrelevant

But either 330bhp Vf35 Bug

or 400 ish Sc42OD in the Blob

It's the gains i would be interested in,

Ethanol is far less corrosive than Methanol also another point i read,

I'm also talking about newage

Perhaps the rotten pumps were out classics ?

Modern engines have to cope with at least 10% ethanol i read.

Why not tho ?

As you have zero actual experience of it i struggle to see why so negative about something you have not tried ?

Why wouldn't you want free power and better spool on a 300bhp car nvm a 6/700bhp car ?

Would rather wait for a reply from folk in the know as apposed to hearsay

You do understand Ethanol & Methanol are different ?

Hopefully someone has 1st hand experiences with either

Positive or Negative

because its something i looked into myself for my type R, was going fuel flex
for my syvecs so i could run what ever.

But its your choice if you want to listen or not.

12% sounds very specific ?

Any reason why ?

Do you have any Vpower vs Meth graphs ?

Can you tell when on the juice ?

There is no negative about the methanol people make mistake with ethanol or watermath as long as you get the mix correctly which is so easy to get it right you will never get any problem with it plus the mapping is important too so as long as you have a good map for it and you put the correct mix then you be fine and so far I haven’t heard anyone that had problems with methanol big power guys running them all the day without any problems whatsoever....

I am running 517 BHP that’s way enough for me I am not tracking my car or taking it to 1/4 miles so 517 BHP is way too much power for me

I have the graphs but I am in Hoilday in turkey ones I am back to uk I will updated my post with the graphs......

I've run a water/meth injection system since 2008 with no problems, that's 50% meth. Ok that's what it's designed for but might have expected to have eaten something in that time. The jet sprays up into my TMIC just before the throttlebody.
Also ran 20% meth in tank for 4 or 5 years with no corrosion issues. My 03 blobeye has only ever had 2 fuel pumps, the standard pump and now an RCM 350 installed in 2012. I stopped using the meth in fuel 2015. My car made 466hp with meth, but dropped to 440hp just on VPower. I get some gains from the W/M injection, prob 20hp. You could get gains of 30-40hp but it might be less. I wouldn't use it again, it's just to much hassle.

Methanol seems to be most popular on here,

Is that due to it being cheaper than Ethanol ?

Anyone had good results with that ?

Been using a meth mix for years. My old td05 18g made 370 on vpower and 405 on 20% meth on my 2.1 stoker. S206B about 460 on vpower and 500+ on 25% meth

Did you find gains all over the rev range or just up top ?

What about E85/Ethanol being added ?

is E85 available in the north? I seem to remember it at the Morrisons pumps a few years back but not now.

I think E85 is available in drums as some kind of bio race fuel. It's not available from the Morrisons pumps anymore, sadly.

I used 5 litres / tank in my WRX for a while - gained about 20hp over the v-power only map (390 vs 370), and it had more torque lower down as well and drove 'better'. Once I went back to normal fuel, it felt a bit flat tbh, but I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of running E85 for something that was a daily car back then.

Ethanol can be bought for around 50 quid for 24 litres,

Considering the advantages of a 20% mix with v-power,

Cars used weekends at the most so the extra hassle is not a problem,

I read injectors can be maxed quickly tho

I run DW850cc & 340LP/H pump

methanol is £29.50/ 25litre from Jennychem.
I ran 466 with PE650's and FPR/ 340pump. would have thought if maxing 850's, cost would be prohibitive but then if low miles.

Yep lucky if car does 3k per year so the cost/hassle isn't really an issue

Recently got a Bug Sti to daily which means the fun one does even less miles,

I had read Ethanol was less corrosive for fuel systems than Methanol which has been mentioned on here but others have ran Methanol for years with zero issues.

Methanol appears to be a little more popular i guess due to cost purchasing,

Is there any reasons other than cost why you would choose one over the other ?

Ethanol vs Methanol ??

Ethanol is definitely better user friendly, in fact I thought E85 was 85% ethanol 15% fuel, the fuel part to stop people consuming it.
My guess is there would be a small performance advantage from methanol but not certain.
Purely from a handling point E85 much safer.
