Default PCV valve - oil usage

Could a ****ty PCV valve be the cause of excessive oil usage?

Rocker covers are clean, gaskets replaced 25k ago.
No drips underneath.

Had the top mount off a while ago and didn't seem like oil had leaked in there.

I must get through an extra 3 litres every 6k! Might even be more. That's a lot right?

Apart from a bit of greyblue smoke out the back every now and then on a full boost go go go, the car boosts and runs perfect.

I found that I had this a while ago. The PCV valve could be at fault if stuck open. I also discovered that using a genuine oil filter stopped my oil usage if thats any help to you?

Hi

What oil are you using? Is it modified?

Cheers

mines doing the exact same thing, just purchased a 3port oil catch can and return to Sump kit and see if that reduces anything. Getting a smell of burning oil inside car also when driven hard, but no visual sign of oil leak anywhere, no drips or anything.

Yup genuine Subaru oil filter.

Using millers CFS 10W40 advised move from 5W40 about 12k miles ago.

Modified yep, but not mental, running about 300, VF34, full decat, cold air intake, 3port bc, STI Topmount.

I too, get smell of burning oil inside, but this isn't just when driven hard, most of the time I'm pootling along, and when I come to a stop it stinks and I have to open the windows.

I did a 160mile motorway trip to London, and then 2 days later, back again 160miles, and the oil level went from middle of low and high, down to well below low, just on the tip!
Most of that time was just cruising.

Defo no oil dripping on to any part of exhaust, so it's not burning on the outside of the exhaust.

Dogmot, are you fitting the catch can kit yourself?

When you put the catch can on think it does away with the PCV valve. Check your turbo as well

Sounds like the oil isn't the problem, you had said it was a 500bhp forged build and using a basic 5w-30, then that might have answered the issue.

Yer going to fit the catch can myself. Only bit I'm concerned about is people now return the catch can return pipe to Sump via the actual Sump plug with a "an" fitment on it. I personally don't like the sound of this, surely welding a bung in the Sump for the return pipe to attach too higher up would be a better solution? Don't like the idea of possibly knocking the bottom of the Sump whilst driving and loosing all oil.... or am i been to careful?
