bit of advice for high milage type r
Hello,
So ive reached 120k miles on my orignal 97 type r engine and shes still going strong,the body on the other hand needs refreshing for the test so at the moment im throwing on all new suspension,discs,super pro bushes all round,bit of welding,re spray etc etc,also a new Nur Spec exhaust,
The plan is im trying to get as much millage as i can from the engine while i save for the eventual rebuild,
the question is this,AM I MAD? 120K,shes going to need a re map,should i just put the car away before she blows and save for a year or 2??
im wondering do i have the highest milage sti on the planet with original engine,AND original ECU

If it's still going strong then I wouldn't worry,if it's been looked after then who's to say it won't do another 120k?
Who's to say a fresh rebuild will last 120k?
Some barely last 30k,I've heard of plenty of non forged and forged rebuilds only lasting 20-30k including mine
Why would you need a remap?
You could always do a health check,compression test,leak down etc and get it on the rollers to check AFR and det.

i guess your right,thinking about it,many buddys have re-built and blown new engines a lot while ive had mine
I think because of a new exhaust system a remap might be advisable,maybe get the boost taken down a bit to prolong the life of the engine,?
along with this ive had the car for 14years now and i never got her mapped for 95 fuel,how its still going is beyond me.
