Engine rattle/knocking
Hello all.
I have a wrx sti hawk. I have a rattle/knocking sound from within the engine bay. Seems to be coming from the front of the engine. It disappears after around 2500rpm. Having trying to search I found from YouTube that It could possibly be the cambelt tensioner. I will try and post a vid of the noise itself later on.
Any ideas?
Cheers peeps.

I checked the rattle last night and it seemed to disappear after a few revs or when the fan kicked in. This leaves me to think it might be a loose heat shield as Ossett2k2 has said. Going to have to wait until the weekend to get it up in the air to have a proper look. But overall I don't think it's anything to loose sleep over.
Cheers.

I'm actually having the same issue as you mate.
Also forged, always been slappy when cold(had the car 6 months) but now it's tappy even when warm, sounds pretty much like yours and I searched YouTube and came to the same conclusion, noisy tensioner.
The only way to check is by taking of the cam covers, ballache for me as fmic pipes want taking off so means taking the bumper off ect.
I've been wanting to replace timing belt anyway so we are doing that on Tuesday,I'm hoping this is what the noise is on mine.
I did a couple of oil changes(filtered the old oil) didn't find any pieces of bearing so doubt it's bottom end, plus that's a different kind of knocking which is noticable at all revs and very bad when coming off throttle.
There are other things it could be,broken rod or piston are a couple of things(hope not tho)
Hope it's nowt bad for you pal, keep us updated if you find out the problem.

Yea hopefully nothing to worry about. I did an oil change 2week ago and didn't notice any metal particals in their. Think next month I'm going to take it to the clinic to see what they say on the matter.
Cheers.

Too true, might sound crazy but the most important thing too me that I hand the keys over to someone who more of a passion for what they do and a respect for my pride and joy. Rather than some people who have complete disregard for my property. My dad had a saying which has stuck with from the first time I herd it "familiarity breeds contemt" wasn't his saying but true I think.
