what caused it to blow up? need to diagnose that first.

also you may be better to get it rebuilt, or sell it as a rolling shell and just buy another one.

If its blown a hole in the engine then its a serious failure and need to make sure that what ever caused it doesnt happen to the new engine, could be MAF related which is why it wasnt running right even at low revs. Afraid you've learnt the hard way never ever try to drive through a problem with a subaru always get them checked out.

Do you have a budget in mind for what you want to do?

Manual boost controller may have well caused it then

£1000 wont get you a proper rebuild im afraid, unlikley to get a decent second hand engine inc fitting either
