Default Sti 5 transplant into turbo 2000

I have a 1999 sti 5 wagon with a rotten chassis and body, and want to transplant all the running gear into a 1999 turbo 2000. I'd buy another sti but I've found a cheap donor in great condition which makes sense to do this financially.

I know the chassis and body are identical but will I run into any electrical issues?

I'm hoping just to swap the engine and gearbox and leave all the wiring in the turbo 2000 then just swap the ECU and the sti clocks, sound feasible?

Many thanks
Will

SOUNDS feasible, yes.

I know that a lot of the wiring, unused on UK cars for things like folding mirrors etc is actually there on the 99 cars.

I bet someone has actually done this, so keep asking.

As it's the same model version/year you should be ok. But I seem to remember people saying that a few of the ecu wires are in different pins on the jap ones... I think that was in regards to fitting a WRX/STI ECU to a UK turbo and if memory serves it was the crank or cam sensor wires. But I am only going on memory and may be very wrong.

While you are at it I would fit the bits that are a pain to do once the car is assembled. Like engine/gearbox mounts, clutch and any little oil leaks. Should have a sound car then (unless of course these parts are already top notch).

The wiring niggles are my biggest fear, that feeling when you get it all back together and go to crank it and .... nothing.

Can be longer to remedy than the physical swap.

If the manifold loom is different how will it match up pin wise to the other main loom?

Which sensor is different?

I have just done a 1999 sti conversion on a 1999 sport wagon and the answer is no it will not plug and play you need to swap wiring looms and also the heater controls are digital in an sti whereas in uk they are cable controlled so you will need to swap all that too this is of course if your planning a full conversion hope this helps

When you say sport wagon do you mean non turbo? If so it clearly won't be possible because its a non turbo car. So the loom is totally different. But this chap wants to combine uk turbo and sti of the same model year which use the same engine and sensors and ecu but with different map.

That makes things much more complicated. You will need all wiring, all looms, relays, fuse boxes everything. Also make sure the years match or you will find the looms don't work with the dials and dash switches heater blower etc. And also you can't just fit a different year dash lol they don't fit... it's a mine field.
