Default Top Mount InterCooler questions

Hi all.

Ill get straight to the point, i have a 53 plate STI with the standard TMIC, i know and have read that this IC is good for around about 400bhp.

I must add at this point i really dont want the hassle of a FMIC

My car is currently my daily drive, but soon to be adding a T36 with a few other choice modifications to bring the HP up a little to around the mid/high 300s maybe even close to the 400s.

I purchased this TMIC a while ago, but unsure weather it will be beneficial in any way for me ? ( I have added pics of the TMIC i purchased )

When i purchased the cooler i was thinking about airflow etc, obviously bigger the IC, better the charge temp hence more HP etc, but will it really be worth adding this and removing the all ready proven STI cooler that can handle 400bhp ?

Please let me know what you think.

Regards Lee

Personally I would stick with the sti intercooler, rather than what looks like a no name ebay special that may or may not work come mapping time.

Since the standard unit is proven at the power level you are looking for, i would leave it in place.

This one may or may not perform better, does it have any provenance?

No provenance at all with regards to the TMIC, just wanted to guage the knowledge of others on the forum.

Banny i have to agree with you, it does look like a ebay special unit, and i personally think that the TMIC in the pics wont cut it.

Thanks for you input chaps

There was a back to back test of the Grimspeed v STI top mounts on NASIOC last year and just in comparison, power/ ACT's, there was little in it, wether or not there would be in a re-mapping situation where a mapper is pushing the limits more may be different.
I have a Grimspeed which out performed my old AVO by 40hp.
The STI tmic really shouldn't be underestimated.
