Default Knock Detection Readings

I have recently fitted a KS-3 Knock Analyser and I am unsure of the readings/settings. Unfortunatley it was not working when I recently had the car mapped (Turned out to be a dodgy connection).

I have read the instructions on the Phormula Website so have a very vague idea. Frequency is set at 6.5 but even with the Gain set at 20 I still only get a knock reading of 23 on a good blast.

From what Ive read a gain of 10ish with knock readings of 35-40 is a reasonable starting point, with bad knock being much higher, say 90 odd.

Am I along the right lines? Do my readings sound ok or does it look like a faulty sensor/fitting/analyser?

Appreciate any thoughts

Any spike is bad regardless, 90 is engine melting ! you should have your warning c.40 IMHO but needs setting up during mapping to align what the laptop tells you to correspond accordingly with your KS3 setting Sort it out sooner rather than later as otherwise it`s a waste of a good product.... and engine

I get a reading of 40 near the red line with no knock. If i hit the rev limiter i get 80ish instantly!

Normal road rag driving mine doesn`t see more than 10-15 Approaching 7k on a JDM S202 engine with metal solid mounts all over 27 is pretty impressive

Yeah Deffo want to get it sorted! As you say, pretty pointless otherwise.

Frequency is at 6.5
Warning set at 40
Gain set at 20

Getting readings of low 20's wen giving it some major beans!

Just wondered if it was right needing to set the gain so high to get readings in the low 20's. Also wondered if the meth had any play in the results!

A lot of the readings in the replies don't state the gain figure that has been set which makes them pretty meaningless! Set incorrectly, this device can be the source of much paranoir.
I've used one for years and with the gain set to 10 I set the alarm at 45 During mapping the reading reached mid 20's but at highish revs on part throttle I have seen above this on the road.

I could be wrong, But the KS4's instructions for setting the gain, were to increase gain until you get a read around 40, when free revving the engine with no knock, And then set the alarm threshold to 50.

The problem here is that you need some other device (det cans, ideally) to ensure no det when properly setting the KS3 up! It's not good enough to rev the engine in neutral, it needs to be under load.
