Default How to make ej257 track proof?

Since my hawks ej257 engine will need little attention (blown HG ) i was thinkin to do some upgrading as well.

As 2,5s arent exactly known for durability i was wondering what is needed to upgrade for occasional track use.

I am currentlly running 350/400 (plan is to bump this a bit with billet vf43...max 400/450 i guess).

My shopping list :

- CP 99,75mm forged pistons
-BC h beam rods
-Cosworth HG
-ARP 11mm head studs
-acl race bearings
-buffeld sump plate
-better oil pick up
-oil cooler
-11mm oil pump
-340 l/s fuel pump
-all new seals,gaskets etc..

Am i missing something?

Get it converted to closed deck. Also, since you're buying pistons and rods, de-stroke it to 2.35l

Pistons in the current setup are forged and i intend to reuse STI rods to save some cash for suspension & tyres

I hoped SCDB will be ok at this power level (since people use them past 450bhp).

I would build 2.1 stroker as i have two CDBs at home but i heard my AVCS heads wont fit:/

I found the track was where it all started to go wrong, that's over quarter mile runs at the Pod and fast road use. I now have pegged cylinders and a 1.1mm Cosworth HG.
The problem is the cylinders start to move under the gasket and cause fretting which weakens it. I understand also there are inserts around the cylinders which can be used.

Agree with Trev what he said, you have few options what you can choose, get block pegged or adding the CDB insert, both are highly used option

What AVCS heads you running, assume you are running EJ257 heads,if yes they sadly will not fit EJ20 block without the machining etc

Thanks,Jura

So i decided for cdb conversion of my ej 257 block.

As i already have 11mm ARP head studs would they hold 400/450 on track?

14mm conversion is a bit out of my budget atm (if its a must ill do it).

I'm. Currently in the motions to get my ej25 forged speak to alyn at as performance

I'm planning on getting my block built that will be capable of withstanding 550

Alyn has recommended rcm extreme 11mm head studs

They would be a better option for you or at least cosworth 260000 head studs

He said that ARP should be good for 450 (weak link of my shopping list).

I also did reserch and apparently people did over 2.0 bar (500+ bhp) on built ej257 on 11mm ARPs......i doubt ill get anywhere near that on billet vf43.

I will use ARPs (fingers crossed cdb and Cosworth HG will do the trick) and save some ££ for suspension.

CDB - Good move
11mm ARP will be fine
