Default Text Speak... Why???

Guys/Gals

With more new people using the forum it's great to see new people getting involved.

However, I have a bit of a gripe and I know it bothers others too.

Please when posting in our forum can we refrain from using text speak. It's difficult to read and makes posts unpleasant to follow.
There are people working hard to try and revive the ESC and give it a new, more grown up look. This is to try and drop the tacky chav image that Subarus have seemed to adopt over recent years.

Text speak does not help this situation. It doesn't take long to type a reply using correct spelling and full words. I understand that spelling and grammar sometimes contain typos. So this is not a witch hunt for anyone with spelling difficulties.

So please in future can we type correctly and not in text language.

Thankyou.

Great thread Frazier but I do find it odd being told to speak properly by someone around the same age as my kids.

I've been saying the same for years, with a whole keyboard inf ront of you and not being restricted to 140 characters ....... Type correctly !!

Frayz is obviously showing his age now as well .... He's no longer the whipper snapper he once was

Lol is an acronym and not a word. Its also in the urban dictionary as its so now commonly used.

Text speak such as "C U l8r m8" came about when we had early mobile phones with limited character usage. On the forum we have unlimited space and the forum isn't a message board. It's for people to read in depth knowledge and information on a chosen subject.

Not only is it awkward to read but looks untidy. Judgmental or not, makes you look, in my opinion like an uneducated idiot. (regardless if you are or not!)

Maybe im showing my age here but have never used it and never will. Subsequently I don't wish to read it on an open forum. Fine if you want to text your mates like that but this is a public place and it serves no purpose here.

Totally agree, Text talk is one of my pet hates and my other half and I have to use our daughter as a translator occassionally!!

If "Essex Scooby Crew" is deemed to be chavvy and is being changed to "Club" to encompass a new chapter of the Essex Subaru scene - then I personally think text talk should be refrained from use.

Not everyone here is a baseball cap, hoodie wearing 20 something year old and in my opinion, Text Talk can and will put off the older generation from joining and making use of the collective knowledge and experience of other users

That's odd. The way you type makes you seem more around the age of 13
