Default Maf or O2 sensor problem? Any idea's/help.

After some advice please lads.
My MY2000 classic has decided to play up for the 1st time today.

My air fuel meter is showing very lean on the way to work and the A/F on my turbo timer is also showing almost nothing. Thing is the car seems to run ok. Tried some medium throttle positions on the way to work and kept a close eye on the oil/water temp. Both these temps did seem slightly high, but that could be the paranoia setting in.

Where should i start checking? The maf or the o2 sensor.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Frayz, on the gauge (which is the led type) it's not reading anything on tickover going to the second led on revs. normally it bounces around the normal section of the gauge, at the moment it's barely getting a reading on the lean section. The AFR on the timer is showing around 0.07, o2 sensor voltage (i think, thats when the apexi has both the af and o2 led's lit) is 17 ish.
Hope that info helps.

Sory mate, it doesnt help me at all.

My wideband is plumbed in so its not like you can borow it to test. Id take it somewhere like Mocom that has a standalone kit for you to check it out properly.

The LED gauges are not really worth a carrot as a flashing light doesnt quantify anything. Sorry i cant be more help.

Cheers anyway mate. Only good thing is the leds have let me know theres a problem. I have a spare maf, may fit that later. Also going to try and pick up a new O2 sensor in case it's thats. All i know is the readings are way off from standard.

would point at the maf more TBH as when Mr spec'C's o2 sensor was playing up it was running awful, holding back at low/medium throttle.

Tried another maf Spec C, still the same problem. funny thing is the car seems to run fine, just worried in case there is a running lean problem.

Thats why you need to check the fueling properly with proper equipment.

Could quite easilly be a duff gauge.

Default Update

Understand what your saying about the gauge Frayz, but the gauge and the apexi timer readings both going at the same time would be unusual, as they both use seperate feeds.

Spoke to Zak at Mocom yesterday and he said I could pop it up there. He spent 2 hours yesterday afternoon checking the systems out for me.
Turned out to be a faulty maf and a faulty O2 sensor.....how lucky am I!
Had a new O2 off them and have ordered a new Maf (arrives tomorrow). In the meantime Zak loaned me a (used) maf .
Very impressed with the service. Thanks Mocom!
