ESC on tour - 2009
After watching Charlie Boorman's latest adventure, travelling from Ireland to Australia be any method apart from comercial airlines, I came up with an idea.
Charlie left Ireland on a Scallop trawler and went to the Isle of Man, and done a lap of the legendary TT circuit!
Who fancies a long weekend away?
At the moment, I'm looking at catching a ferry at Liverpool, going to Douglas and staying at a local hotel.
Dates I'm looking at are Friday 24th April to 26th April.
I've checked the I.O.M. Steam Packet website and they haven't got any crossings listed for April, mind you, they haven't got many listings on there for 2009, so I have Emailed them for availabilty and prices. If there's enugh interest, we may be able to wrangle a discount.
Hotels in Douglas range from £30 (3 Star) to around £85 a night, or we could rough it in a tent
Don't forget, the speed limits are set in towns, once out of the towns, you can drive as fast as you want legally Though after seeing some footage of the roads, it's advisable not to go to mad!!
Before I get too carried away, who's up for it?

Definately interested, Paul, Not in a tent though. Caravan park could be a laugh if we get enough interest.

Can anyone help me with what additional things are required for this trip.
Things like breakdown cover etc. Appreciate any info from guys that have done this before & know what you really need for the trip.
Like Bri4n I prefer something a bit more solid than a tent
(not saying tents are not solid but the general comform is way below par )
Cheers Andy.

Thanks Phil, will do ps, what's the guy's name/username, SIDC forum or S/N?
I'm still waiting for an Email from the ferry company regarding crossing times and prices.
Pinseeker, I would get travel insurance to be on the safe side, best £40 (Car's over 10 years old, cheaper for newer cars) I spent when I went to Germany!!

Got a reply from CupraDave:
No problem mate, let me know what I can do
I am not aware of any static caravan parks and caravans are generally not allowed on the island other than at TT and the likes (the governments way of keeping out the pikeys)
There are loads of hotels and B&B's, a couple of my friends have a wee sort of granny flat come holiday home at the side of their house which they rent out, not sure on price though, I can check it out for you if you want
I also have a friend who's parents own a hotel on Douglas front, I could look into rooms there for you too if you like?
How many of you are coming? and how many cars?
