Default map the ppp ecu or get a standard ecu ?

Right my car is a 2004 wrx sti blob with ppp fitted and was wondering if its worth buying a standard ecu to map the car or just get the ppp ecu remapped ,

Dose anyone know the cost to map a ppp ecu ? Or if it can be mapped ?

There will be no extra modz going on the car just want it to run its best and be safe

And anyone know how much more I could get just from the standard ppp set up ?

I was hoping I could get 330- 340

Thanks in advance

Lee

Just remap the PPP ECU.
Depending on when it was mapped depends whether the ECU will have an ECUTEK license lock on it (Prodrive used ECUTEK). IIRC the licence lock wasn't introduced until 2005, as 2004 WR1's are accessible.

If it's locked you will need to use an ECUTEK dealer or an OpenSource mapper with the correct S/W application.

If it was mapped from new in 2004 though prior to the introduction of the lock, then any ECUTEK or OpenSource mapper should be able to reflash/remap it.

Your expected figures are about right for just a remap on standard(ish) spec.

I brought my STI in 2004 with ppp from the factory and 6 months later still had to pay for the ECUtek license so I guess you will proberly have to do the same if you want to map with that software or use open source software as mentioned above.SJ.

A few years ago, if it was PPP'd a licence wasn't needed as it was already on there. Maybe this has changed or different mappers apply different rules.

PPP is effectively a chip from prodrive on the standard ecu, so as SJ says you will have to pay for the licence.

Sorry but that is incorrect. Of the newage cars the 2001 Bugeye WRX UK300 and PPP used a Gem's daughterboard but shortly after that all ECU were reflashed correctly, replacing the original map with different performance parameters, rather then chipped or piggybacked.

I was going on my experience with my blob, by chip I meant it was mass produced instead of a custom remap iyswim

Thanks for the info guys I had a classic with a power FC then turned maff less with simtec but didn't want to go down the whole new Ecu and map again

Have a few body styling bits to get done first then look to get it tweaked mid 2014 will give a few mappers a pm or call closer to summer

Thanks again guys

Can PPP ECU's from blobs be fitted into non PPP cars as an upgrade? The only reason I say this is if the PPP ECU's have some value it might be cost effective for the OP to buy a standard one which presumably aren't worth much, sell the PPP one and put the money towards the cost of the new map.
