High Emmisions, Remap the reason ?
On my 95 WRX, said this year the emmisions are very high, the only change this year is the remap, so is it a mapping issue or is it the lambda at fault that now its been remapped it cant do what it needs to ?
ive fitted since last mot
440 injectors
higher flowing fuel pump
later spec map sensor
later spec newage coils
as its been mapped would of thought emmisions would still be o.k ?????
cheers guys

was it the high speed idle test or low speed that failed? was it a fail on lambda, hc or co?
the only adjustment map wise is lambda but this in turn effects hc and co.. if lambda passed and co or hc didnt then it could be cat related.
The test is a bit lame really as it is done at around 2500rpm on a held throttle.. so no engine load.. so you cant actually drive at that part of the map, or depending on the ecu you can drive in that cell but you have a tiny bit of load therefore the fuelling on the test with no load is therefore rich.. the test is a basic test of the closed loop function of the ecu.. the 95 wrx should have the lambda sensor in the headers which is fairly prone to failure due to heat and pressure and also is now nearly 20years old (has it been replaced or moved to the top of the downpipe?)
the test is then continued at idle speed having just been held for over a minute at 2500rpm.. any exhaust blow will effect it because the emissions are checked at the tail pipe.

cheers guys, i dont know what failed, he just said emmisions were alot higher than least yr but as its christmas and i go there every year he passed it, he used other readings to pass it he said LOL, so chuffed he passed it but i dont know how or what part it failed on.
It is the original lambda in the original location.
so maybe replace this and next year see if it passes or not i guess ?!?!?!

It will depend in what test was done also
Most start with a BET test which your would probably fail anyway, if thats failed the system moves on to a different test which involves picking exact make/model of car etc etc. It can be pretty long winded getting through the system.
Maybe he didnt bother going into the more detailed test.

yeah, i didnt want to ask too much as when someone passes it anyway i didnt want to bug him with all these questions LOL, so i will never know what area it failed on, he is usually o.k and passes it every year as he uses the old car requirements, the one with no cats i think as it has a sports cat it never passes on the correct settings required, so for it to be high on the old settings, it must be high !

Me again LOL, if i do change the Lambda, can i leave the old one in place (remove the wires obviosuly) and fit the new one at the top of my sports cat (downpipe) ? or would that mess up the MAP etc etc ? im just dreading taking off that old unit thats been in the headers 18 yrs LOL !
