Cheap way to get PPP Map on hawkeye wrx?
Hi all, New to the forum and 1st question.. Be gentle lol
I have a 2.5 hawkeye WRX wagon. It already had a scorpion exhaust on it when i brought it and everything else seems standard. I have ordered a Pro-R (pipercross) panel filter and a Y pipe kit but was looking for a cheap way of getting the PPP map.
I am not looking for headline bhp figures but as always a little more is nice.
I have looked through the forum and seen a 'simple' flash is possible on the classic ecu's but was unsure if this was the case on the hawkeye's.
Any suggestions welcomed.
Thanks,
Fuzz

Ok then, let me rephrase it lol. Is there a way of getting the PPP map easily installed on the 2.5 WRX or is it a dealer visit?
If I can do this myself by ordering software and an interface I would also be happy to do so. (depending on price)
thanks,

Thanks for replies guys, Not so keen to spend £350-£400 on a remap tbh.. not just yet anyway.
Seems to be terrible on fuel as well so far (80 miles on half a tank?!) so I want to be sure everything else is as it should be 1st. Also just spent £200 on brake pads and the Mrs will kill me if I spend money on something you cannot even see lol.
1st time I have seen fuel pump mentioned..
Anything else worth doing to it before thinking about remap?
thanks,

some 2.5 owners will be along as soon as I say this
From most of the 2.5 stories you read on here I wouldn't do anything power increase wise
Fragile seems to be the first word , forged motor is the second

What is it that brakes down? the piston itself or the rings?

They all seem to be newer and much lower mileage.

I have said to hell with the scaremongering lol.. Now has a Pro-R air filter (pipercross) and a decat centre pipe. I also did the plugs as not sure they have ever been done?!
Have yet to fit the new Y-pipe to the intercooler but that will be done over Christmas.
Have to say the car feels a lot nicer to drive and it has improved its drinking habit no end.
does over 100 miles to the half way mark now and been seeing 20-23mpg so more than happy with that.
Feels a lot less strangled at higher revs and seems to pull harder than before work.
Having a map to better accommodate these mods would be ideal I know but not keen on spending £500 or so on that just yet.
Is it possible to (if you have the kit) to flash maps yourself? Just thinking the PPP map would be a better "safe" baseline map.
thanks,

Go to romraider.co.uk
Check out openecu
Opensource remapping you can do yourself and you'll find some base maps to start with. I've got a PPP STI map but won't be any good on yours.

Thanks for reply. I have looked into this. As luck would have it I also have a VAG-COM so I will do some investigation on that as well. If anyone has a PPP Base map or anything with a little more pep it would be greatly appreciated. Or if you can point me in the direction of a repository of files?
thanks,
thanks,
Even modded vag are not capable of flashing every model so you may need a tactrix

Its not a proper Vag-Com its an ebay one. Still worth a try though, costs nothing to look into it.
Thinking about it, near me is an ex Subaru dealer. The garage still do servicing etc. Think it could be possible that they have the facility to flash the ecu?

And it's only certain vag cables can be modded
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...php?p=36951245
I ordered a couple of cables from fleabay but they where not suitable for modding , in the end I ordered one for around $6 from a site in the states because they seem to supply the suitable cable for modding
Then madjax modded it for me

Genuine vag or not it will need modding to be able to flash

Anyone have any idea if it will work on a hawkeye before I go spending money?

With the mods you are going to be doing
You will have to have a remap, defo
If you start going 270 to 280 bhp and drive it hard, then you will then start to break things
3rd gear in the box will want to escape, but it can not get out in one piece, so it breaks into smaller pieces to make it easier to escape
Head gasket will want to let you compressed engine gasses blend with your coolant,
Ring lands will start to let go,
Con rods will want to take the form of bananas,
If you don't want to pay £450 to £500 for a remap after fitting the mods you talk about
Get yourself ready for paying out £1000s for new engine and then get it mapped
If your not going to drive it hard leave it std, 227 is good
A hawk wagon, there's not to many of them about, nice find,
Bez

Bez, It is starting to look more like I will need to get the wallet out to pay for a remap..
I called a local Subaru specialist and they advised they can order the full PPP for me but would also include the other items.. He said the reason for this is they order it on a per car basis with a 1 time map download.
At present mods on the car are Scorpion back box, center pipe decat and pipercross air filter.
y-pipe will go on over Christmas.
I have been told http://www.zenperformance.co.uk/ are the guys to go to round this way. Anyone had any dealings with them?

Anyone know if Zen are still operating? I have called them 3 times and emailed twice with no response..
Looking like the helmet will only need to be put on when riding my Yamaha lol.

For the record Paul at Zen got back to me.. But I had already decided to go whole hog and ordered a tactrix..
I have messed with mapping and ecu's before on other cars so sure this will be similar. Having said that any info or guidance very welcome..
I have also considered changing the turbo up pipe but was unsure if this is worth while? read somewhere the hawkeyes do not have a cat in that pipe any more.
thanks,
