I think Prodrive did a generic map on the standard ecu on an exchange basis through the dealer, mine was done from new before it left the dealer.
Anyway, why is this in the sport section?

There is an actual ECU that was fitted to classic PPP cars. The code is SP. There was a couple for sale on eBay recently, have a look there. And yes it is a generic map for the PPP cars that had all the same upgrade parts fitted. Might not be suitable for plugging in to a car without the same mods.

Pretty certain immobiliser is through ecu on my97/98 uk cars. Alarm if fitted will be seperate but keys are coded to the ecu
And for ref for OP its not a ppp ecu its actually a WRSport upgrade option which was performed at prodrive. There was an extensive options list, performance, suspension, brakes, interior & exterior all had upgrades possible.
The performance upgrade was ecu, intercooler Y-pipe and exhaust. Pretty certain the ecu code is a1800-d12, with a pink label. The std ecu if you check will be a d37 with black/silver label

Yeah his ECU is quite likely to be an 8S like mine is. The key coding thing is only a minor issue anyway, I was curious about it myself a while back though as I had considered doing the same as the OP. There was someone on here claiming to have a prodrive ECU for sale but after I did some research it turned out to an 8S. I then found out that dealers were taking the good ECU's out and popping standard ones in!!
ESL the thing and be done with it!

The SP ECU seems to be making strong money too. I gave £450 or there abouts for the full ESL setup, that's the board, cable and mapping software. The best feature though is the support from Andy Stevens!
