Default 2002 sti type uk prodrive no boost?

Hi Guys,

I have recently bought a 2002 bugeye sti type uk prodrive and I think it has a problem. I was really dissapointed with it as it was not as fast as I thought it would be, anyway I have gone out in another one today and it is far quicker!! The one I have does pull at about 3500 -4500 rpm but not like this other one did which threw you back in your seat. I have changed the map sensor and boost control valve but it is no different, I am thinking it could be the turbo but there is no smoke. Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks
Kev

Have you tried checking the fault codes?

It could be a lot things. Has it been mapped at all? It could be in the low boost setting. Other than that, I'd get it along to someone that knows what they're looking for. There's a number of things mechanical and within the ECU that can reduce the boost.

Thanks,
Yeah checked fault codes and nothing is stored. It has not been mapped as far as I am aware, was told when we bought it that it was standard and had not been messed with but it has had 8 previous owners so could have been done in the past. One thing someone has suggested is an air leak, I have taken off the intercooler and all the pipes to check but cant find a split pipe or anything like that. I have my own garage and I have had a few classic subarus but this is the first new gen one I have had.
Thanks
Kev

What about fitting a boost gauge, if it's only running Wastegate pressure that could point to a couple things. Does it still have the 2 port solenoid? There should be a restricter pill in the piping on the turbo side of the 'T' valve.

Thanks for your replies.
I have plugged the car in to my computer but that is saying the nuteral position switch is working. You can hear air hissing from the right hand side of the engine under the intercooler but just cant find where it is coming from. Are there any pipes that are known to spilt on these? i will have to try and get hold of a boost gauge and try that too.
It is driving me mad now, I have even changed the fuel pump as someone suggested that these can get lazy. Think I might have to get it into a specialist and get them to have a look.
Thanks
Kev

If you can hear hissing my money would be on a boost leak!!! Remove the intercooler and check the hoses/intercooler for any splits or could just be a loose hose.
