Default V1 wrx z4 ecu

Hi all

Just a quick question, I've been looking at getting a z4 ecu for my wrx as it increases power from 237 to 260bhp question is my import has an imobaliser on it and on the fob has conlog wrote on it, is this wired into the ecu and can I stil swap ecu's over without any problems? Car is a 93 wrx gc8 import

Cheers

Doubt the immobiliser would be wired into your ecu .
Z4 will fit fine BUT don't expect it to get 260 as these cars are old.
However the fuelling on the Z4 is a lot better and my car felt a lot smoother to drive, may be worth looking for a 6K ecu (some people on here have had good results, some have had indifferent results)

Update

Couldn't wait lol I've fitted the z4 ecu and runs! It's defo smoother and power delivery seems different and not as harsh as before but when boosting in 5th hard accelaration about 4-4500rpm it seems to cut the power!?!? Unsure if its over boost I've heard that's violent and this is like it just dies! Any ideas?

Ok been thinking at work and researching a little, may be answering my own question here but are the z4 ecu limited in any way?

spark plug gaps try that...it could be the pistons blowing the spark out.

i'm sure the z4 has the higher boost etc, so this will put extra requirements on a lot of other parts, mainly plugs & the good old coil packs, normally when its stuttering/stuggling it is because they are old & can not produce a good enough current to the plugs & this causes the issue when you up the boost on the older cars. I had the same issue.

Check plugs, plug gap & see if you can get hold of a set of coil packs to try.
clean 3 port boost solenoid out, clean idle control solenoid out & join the green connectors under the dash to see if any fault codes.
Also with it being an import & an early z4, i'm pretty sure these are in need of 100 ron fuel so this could have a slight effect if you are running just super unleaded.

Hope that helps!

* if it is limited it will only do 112 mph so if that what the revs are in 5th gear & your doing 112 ish mph then yes looks like its limited. Make sure you use a private road when testing *cough*

All JDM cars are limited to 112mph.
You can run the car on 97RON or higher.
Worth getting a boost gauge (if you haven't already got one) to see what it's boosting to.

I've put my w6 ecu back on the car now and it's boosting more and feels to pull stronger!! So not sure if my w6 has been messed with or not is there any way of finding out guys? Also I had the car of the clock last night with the w6 ecu so the z4 ecu must have a built in limiter of 118mph

It's got a tdo5 bmposer which what I have researched is standard for the saloon of this year, the wagon of 93 ran a tdo4, correct me if I'm wrong by all means.

sounds liek the w6 has been chipped if its going over 112mph hence the increase in power.

I always thought the imports were limited via the clocks? And when you convert them to mph it lifts the limiter?

It can be done that way, or within an aftermarket chip.
