they are a good bit of kit with the key feature being the hand controller, but with the price they are going for and mapping on top you would be better going for a ESL ecu board this is live mapped, mafless and you can have twin maps or you could go for simtek/alcatek ecu which is also mafless and multiple maps but costs more.

any mapper can map it bud. im running one and they are good. there are newer options these days as stated above but i like the fact the commander is there to monitor data as up to 8 channels are available to monitor. esl wont have that as its just a board soldered into your origional ecu but it will have newer features not available on the apexi like mafless, twin maps etc and i,ve heard launch control and anti lag may be available as well in future software.

I have the Apexi and would like to go maf less, but I just like the monitoring facility of the commander too much. Knock count is especially handy.

Doesn't make much sense to fit an Apexi with the more modern tools available now.

From Nengun; PFC £685. AVCR to control boost £367.
ESL £295.
What you DON'T get for spending an extra £757:

Closed Loop Knock Control.
Twin Maps (full, not offsets).
Switchable Speed Density load (MAFless) with AIT compensations.
OEM idle cruise and hot/cold starting compensations.
Diagnostic test codes.
Brand New Windows software
Comprehensive online documentation.
New for 2012 domestic product with excellent customer support

Furthermore:

ESL Cable Dongle and software: £75.
Datalogit cable and software £186.

And we haven't talked about forthcoming motorsport features yet.

andy with the dongle and software could you connect say an ipad or tablet and have gauges displayed and info to monitor ie boost knock etc? what features are coming m8? anti lag and/or launch control? also if someone buys or has an earlier board can it be upgraded in software if the motorsport features do become available?

Great question. In theory the software should work with Windows 8, but I've yet to test the cable driver with it. If the rumours about the price direction of these tablets are true, it could well be the way forward for in car monitoring and control.

Motorsport firmware is finished for 97/8, here is a demo:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AJAUA_F89s

We are currently writing the secure update routines for it which also have overlap with the new 99/00 product.

Sorry, didn't answer the last part of the question, earlier boards (v1.2a and before) cannot be updated, they are physically different.

All 97/8 boards will be updatable. 92/6 v2.0 and up wioll also be updateable.
