remap but keeping knock sensor
Guys
One of the reasons I bought a PPP car was the ability to run 95 and 98+ octane with the car able to change its mapping accordingly.
Are there any other options which allow a custom remap but also retain the ability of the car to automatically adjust for fuel quality?
Ta in advance...

PPP is a standard ecu with slightly increased boost, timing and adjusted fueling. It in itself doesnt just adjust for 95 or 98. It modifies its values for the above conditions gradually (or shockingly quick if the fuel is as weak as pisswater).
Having a remap over the ppp map will still do exactly the same but give a little more power (and perhaps drivability), best to ask for it to be mapped for 95 fuel though and it will run the very best regardless of ron.

Hmmm. So asking the obvious then, is it possible to just have the standard ECU remapped / re flashed to give slightly more oomph and driveability than the prodrive map and still retian the ability to run either 98 or 95 RON fuel and have the ECU retard ignition accordingly?
I was under the impression that remaps meant you had to choose to run 98 all the time unless you had it mapped for 95 which meant that you then lost any benefit from running on 98...?

The standard ecu and ppp has knock control as does the standard ecu when mapped and as does some aftermarket ecus. But none have the proper control to change safely from the super it is meant to be running to 95ron.
You can have a car mapped on 95 ron but thats another story.

OK, thanks Simon.
I've always had Power FC's in my other Jap turbo cars and had them mapped to 98.
I opted for the PPP pack as I was under the impression it would auto detect what fuel it had in there and adjust boost, fuelling and ignition map accordingly.
Sounds like all it can do is retard ignition timing abruptly if it detects knock and then slowly advance it again (ie, re-learn) over a period of time if it detects better quality fuel.
Would it be worthwhile loading the car up with 98+, disconnecting the battery for a while to reset the ECU and then letting it relearn?

the main issue is it see det to then retard the timing and the advance it again slowly until it dets and then pull it back etc..
it will relearn with the 98 in there but after a tank or two of 98 it wouldnt hurt to reset the ecu.. although depending on the year the battery disconnect wont reset it fully.
you might actually find is does better mpg on the 98 to counter the cost saving at the pump
