Default Bought mapped ecu....advice.

I think I jumped the gun to save a couple hundred pound and wanted advice. I bought an ecu mapped to 380bhp. It came off a 05 wrx with all usual mods! But the bottom end forged. Now I have the same spec car 05 wrx with the same mods. The only difference being I've got a v34 turbo and engine is not forged. Now my plan was to upgrade the turbo to a low lag td05 type .....then put the ecu on.....it has anti lag and launch control.......now at the time o thought this wouldn't be a major problem because similar spec.....but after speaking to a mapper about the ecu being programmed to specific engine etc I'm thinking now if I made a bad choice..... Any advice??? I know gearboxes can be stressed over 350 but I figure engine internals would be okay considering I don't really launch race or boost too often....engines on 47k......my main worrys are is the setup going to be totally wrong.....it was mapped by one of top few mappers in the U.K. not dropping a name and I picked ecu up for 200 rather than 475 it would of cost.....as said think i may of been bit hasty and don't want to **** my car

it will need mapping, even if same mods/spec.

only tign that will be useable on the ecu will be the ecutek license code if it has one. map will be totlay over written

Yep Tidgy is right the map will need to be to your specific car. You may well save a few quid not having to pay the Ecutek licence if that is indeed what is on it and its not a open source map.

As for the gearbox that's a hit or a miss mate. I know of standard 5 speed boxes running 400 bhp no issues if you are mechanically sympathetic, but it is a lucky dip others fail well before that.

i would take the ecu back for a refund, i am pretty confident the original mapper wont remap the ecu to your car for the price of a tweak, he will want to start again from scratch especially with the anti lag and launch control, and its probably maf less as well.

Or sell it on and go open source for your mapping needs? You could have identical engine and mods but the map would still need checking/tweaking as no two are really the same!

Agreed to above, for newage imprezas, there is no need to buy an ecu when the standard one can be rewritten to many many times.

yep i had that when i sold my old car and returned it back to standard, went to stick ecu in my new car and mapper wanted 350ish quid as it was a fresh map which i could totally understand as its labour end of the day
