calling experienced drivers - scooby balance
hello, just trying to gather information before i purchase a scooby...
i've heard from lots of people that they have a lot of understeer, is this true? as understeer is the devil!
most likely i'll either be getting a late classic, or a bugeye...base turbo UK model of both (tho i believe the base model is called the WRX in the bugeyes?).
what are the differences between the two, balance wise?
i know if it understeers you can provoke it with a bit of mid corner lift, but i don't really like to drive that way.
is there any cost effective way of modifying the car to be more neutral (i'm guessing oversteer is too much to ask really), without fitting a susp kit (want to keep the ride quality)?

Hey there.
Nice to see you expanding your forums from Porka and CGTi then!
Can't comment on the dynamics as I've never driven one fast except in a straight line, and that was a very early classic, but the base model turbo bugeye is indeed called the WRX.
I think many people would recommend a decent geometry set up with regard to handling as a good mod to start with.
HTH!

i think u'll find this prob with both the bugeye and the classic. go for a classic!!! they look so much better!!
Dunno about setups...maybe try some tein suspension and great tyres!!!

If you have the money try looking at a different scoob...the new V8 sti has variable dif (no understeer there at all). Take a look at V5 type R's, they have the same and can be manually setup for no understeer but more oversteer (i believe it takes a while to get used to them). Try the P1... much better suspension setup, does not understeer anywhere nr as much as the standard uk turbs. Its all money...if ur seriuosly bothered about it and fancy something different..get an evo... they have a beautiful turn-in and monumental grip!!!
