The two brackets on my downpipe snapped because the engine brace was loose. This has since been tightened & I need the brackets welded back on. Apparently you need a tig (dunno if this is spelt right) welder to do it on stainless steel & no garage has got one
Anyone know where I can go???

Check the local yellow pages under Steel Fabrication or welding and look for someone who does TIG. It will only take a few minutes to weld them back on and won't cost much. You can MIG weld stainless but you need the proper stainless wire to stop it from rusting away later. You can also ARC it but you need very expensive rods.
Welding used to be my trade but I stopped a few years ago.

Stainless stell can be welded very easily with mild steel wire. Obviously after many years it will rust, and if you are fussy about it being all shiny then probably wont like it. But for all the welding that would be seen, it works perfectly fine. I actually find it much easier to weld than normal mild steel.

Blue Tack LOL Yeah thanks Sammy I'm phoning that gaff in Redhill tomorrow & if I have no joy i'll try a metal fabrication company as there's one around the corner. Last resort though as they'll probably want the offending item without the car - downpipe removal
Ian - won't be coming to the Surry meet i'm afraid as it's my stepdads birthday & my mum's coooking one of her famous roast dinners I'll catch up with you at another meet though.
