Evening all,

Just a quick one, Would a knackered 1st gear synchro keep it from changing gear and stick in 1st??

IMHO it certainly wouldn't help, however worn/sticking selectors are as likely....

right had gear box out again yesterday, i went down myself to see it with my own eyes,

the selector arm where the gearstick fork goes, was still in 1st, but the gearstick was in the neutral position, which is impossible
this is what it should be like

but some how it was like this with the stick in neutral

which is just a case of pulling it back, but some reason when going from 1st to neutral the gearstick is going there but somethng is pull it back into 1st without the stick in.. its a new one on me,

could not see no fault with anything, we checked the dented spring all looked fine, so just incase we put some spring washers on it to make it tighter etc, (old trick)

so now its back on the road but i darent try and use 1st gear just incase, so setting off in 2nd everythime, but thinking going from 1st straight to 2nd would be fine, but have nt got the ***** to try it yet, as just enjoying the car after 2months of not having it,

Any idea's anyone, really dont want to throw anymore money at the gearbox, unless it was say £100 to get it fixed 100% so i dont have to worry about it

check the selector lever it might be worn on one side so will be able to select neutral and stay in gear.

is that the stick which sits in the slot, if so i told them to change it for the old gearbox one, which seems to be a slighter tigher fit,

the other thing in your thread if you have put a washer at the back of the detent bolt and spring you have in-fact weakened it as the gap is now bigger. if you took the washer out the gap would be shorter and tighter! I usually fit stronger springs in my boxes
