Unhappy

Over the last week, my MY99 Turbo has started to jump out of 5th gear occasionally when travelling on the motorway.

I may just be imagining it, but I think it also may not be as smooth as it used to be when changing gear.

Anyone have suggestions for what could cause this?

Mike,

This is a known fault for impreza gearboxes, and the good news is that dealers are aware of it and will repair under warranty. Take it to your local dealer asap.

I had mine done a couple of months ago with no charge or hassle.

Hope this helps,

Mark

it's the nut that holds fifth gear on to the shaft it can be done incitue (spelling!) and takes a couple of hours. if left it will work it's way back along the shaft and cut in to the plastic oil way that feeds fifth gear eventualling shearing it off and then fifth gear seizes solid . i've done a few now not nice when it seizes. get it done asap

Thumbs down

My local dealer says that Subaru UK now recommend that you replace the 5th gear set and the synchro assembly as well as the nut, because they have usually been damaged too. This seems plausible because I have been getting scrunched gear changes for the last month or so, and reverse has been getting more and more difficult to engage (I think that 5th gear and reverse work together).

Trouble is, its £1100+vat to fix. Can anyone recommend reliable alternative Subaru specialists who could do the work for less? (Preferably in the Thames Valley area).

Yowch. I had mine done on my MY00 (EU import) a couple of months back @ 34000 miles and it would have cost £480, if it weren't for Warranty Direct paying most of it . Get it sorted before it gets too bad though otherwise it'll be a lot more expensive .

Good luck mate
