Diff/Box oil MY03 JDM STi
Gonna be changing my diff and gearbox oil soon, from what I can gather Castrol Syntrax seems to be the prefered choice, just wanted to check this is OK for both the Gearbox and Rear Diff on a 2003 JDM STi with DCCD-A?
Can`t seem to find much mention of people using it in DCCD equiped cars.

It will all depend on what you can get your hands on, but it should be a good quality GL5 spec LS oil.You could go for either a 75w90 LS or an 85w LS oil.At a push you could use a 90w LS, but this is not really meant for temps below freezing (O deg F)I'm sure that someone like Halfords would have something suitable, but failing that you could mail order a litre from a specialist like Demon Tweeks.

Help please oh wise one.... 2002 STI Type UK.
How do I keep my six speed box happy with around 400 bhp/360 ft.lb. ?
Suretrac front, maybe rear (?)

Sorry to but in, but if I have a Helical LSD which i do according to GB code, do I also need to use an LS oil? I realise that you are talking about rear diffs and oil for them so i might be wittering on about nothing.
In fact to make it easier, whats the best oil for a V5 Sti Ra Ltd, with DCCD and a gearbox code of TY754VB1EA. Capacity would be great too

Hi Plastikman,
Sorry for the late reply, have been away from work for a week & up to my elbows in wallpaper & paint. (back to work for a rest now!)
The recomended oil for your box is the Castrol Syntrax 75w90 (now called Driveline).
If you are carrying out a drain and refill with the box in the car, then it will req'r 3.5 ltrs.
If you have a gearbox that is dry, i.e been rebuilt, then you will need 4 ltrs

You see why i question this......! Remember, I said that I have the DCCD and Helical Diff which this post mentions, this also contradicts what Opie says??? Confusion has well and trully set in!
Also, what for the rear Diff?

The post you refer to says that Syntrax is suitable for your front diff (helical type) but states that because you have a DCCD, which is a plate diff, then you should use an LS oil.
This contradicts Subaru's own worshop manual, which states that all manual boxes & rear diffs should run Syntrax (even one with a DCCD fitted).
The only circumatances where this advice changes relates to the rear diff, and it is recommended that an LS oil is used in the rear when it has been modifyed and runs a plate type Limited Slip unit or you have a late New Age car that runs a DCCD coupled with a Suretrack rear diff, the gearbox however continues to run Syntrax.
The capacity of the rear diff is 1L

PeeVee, what do you recommend for a 2006 Forester Sti for the gearbox and rear diff?
The car uses Suretrac diffs front and rear with no DCCD, 6-speed.
