Some love it, some hate it, but for me Shell Optimax is the business.

the blackbeast is a MY94 WRX Wagon (like you lot did not know that ) and I've had it for 2 years, until xmas 2001 I always ran it on 95 RON fuel. I'm told this is "A Bad Thing" because it's an import, but I never had a problem.

I'm now running on optimax. why? well I had a BPM Twin Dump downpipe fitted and thought this might cause det, which really is "A Bad Thing" and thought I'd avoid that. Plus Optimax round my way is cheaper than SUL, but has a better RON rating than SUL, go figure!

so, bottom line, Optimax

Question

I can only get Optimax now and again (nearest garage 25 miles away). Is it best to go with 'normal' unleaded and octane booster if i'm not able to get Optimax everytime? (SUL 11p a litre more than UL at local garage!)

If possible point us to any previous threads.

Cheers
Rich (MY99 turbo)

So just how much is this Optimax stuff anyway?

Been running UL as think the 10p/L hike for SUL is just silly.

I've not worked it out either, but optimax is about 5p/litre cheaper than Esso SUL less than half a mile down the road, not gonna complain though, been my fuel of choice since I've found somewhere to get it

Question

Hi, I'm a scooby virgin, just got a standard t-plate turbo (MY99?) ) so excuse my ignorance. Is Shell Optimax classed as unleaded, super, or is it a brand on its own? I understand from the posts that this is the best fuel to use with the turbo.

Also is it ok to alternate between unleaded and super/optimax? Or can I use regular unleaded 99% of the time, and stick in super or Optimax now and again? No Shell garages close to me But if UL is goin to **** wiv the injectors, I will have to find optimax I guess :/

I switched my MY98 UK Turbo to optimax back in November time .... and no looking back! Runs better and is more responsive! Not noticed a change in MPG though :-)
