Anything above 75mph going into 5th results in the box crunching.

Have just had an 'in between' service done where they changed gear box oil remember something being said about this before but the Search is offline.

Any advice please.

I am using Castrol Syntrax Universal (API GL 5). The gear change is certainly smoother/easier compared to the original oil and to Mobil 1 synthetic gearbox oil. But I don't think it will help if your synchromesh has been damaged.

Castrol Syntrax 75w/90 cured the problem for me (99MY) 4th to 5th at well over 100 - no problem now!

you problem may be the syncro ring between 4th & 5th gear, speak to stuart from town end garage, tel hoim kevin from wales gave you his number. What these people dont know about scxooby aint worth knowing. I had same problem and he fixed it for very little money at all.

I've got this as well and only done 13K in my P1. Taking it into the dealer on Wednesday to get it looked at.

Better hadn't be a new gearbox though, sounds a bit drastic!!!

It'll be under warranty I hope.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Seeings how it only started after a gearbox oil change I think I am gonna check what they exactly put in it. I just hope it nothing more serious.

As we're talking about crunching gearbox's, I'm now unable to go from 2nd to 4th. Started happening this week, horrible crunching noise. Is it likely to be the selector or the synchro ?
cheers

It's a weak selector fork apparently. I've had it sorted twice on my P1 now. It starts going from 4th to 5th over about 5K revs and progressively gets worse. My dealer had the cheek to tell me that I should be careful with the way i select reverse gear??? as it was easy to damage the gear. I asked him what this had to do with 5th gear and he was at a loss to explain it!! On the positive side it's a same day job.
