Advice on dawes, before i order please
#1
There seems a lot of chit chat about dawes on here, im not going to dredge up stuff that been said before but what I would like to know is
Did you all go for the standard kit, or the deluxe kit?
Also on their web site they sell a air/fuel metre, looks pretty cheep, but a very reasonable price, has anyone got one? And are they any good?
Any other opinions on the dawes, or things I should know please throw them in, I would like to order it sometime this week if I get time/information
Uk 99 with no middle cat and back box (soon to have k&n induction kit)

Not sure about the kit - I think mines the standard one but Scott W ordered them. Can't say about the other thing.
As for the Dawes - GET ONE See my other thread on the RR results of mine and Scotts car with one fitted.
We've now got more torque than two results I've seen for P1's

That shove it the back is now like a punch
Yes - we have both felt an incredible difference. The car just pulls and pulls and pulls and doesn't run out of steam at all. The extra torque has made overtaking a piece of cake. Its tranformed the car into something so much more driveable.
In short its like a new car Basically for the cost of a straight through exhaust and the Dawes you've got power and torque equivalent of, if not more than a PPP'd car
In short you will definately notice a big difference over the standard car
Hope that sort of helps/answers your questions.......

I went for the 'race spec' dawes, about £50 including shipping.
It looks identical to the cheaper type but is supposed to act quicker.
Without during a direct comparison its difficult to comment but one thing I have noticed is that I don't need to drill out the bleed hole to stop overboost, works great straight out of the box.
Whether that is because of the improved response time or the fact that i still have my downpipe cat fitted i don't know.

rnr,
I'd say it depends how much boost you go for - the set point is adjustable. It is essential you get some method of measuring boost so you dont overcook it.
Looking at other posts - 1 bar on MY99 and MY00 gives good results with no signs of detting on standard ECU -
check out thread 'http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/thread.asp?threadid=66243
I'm running at a modest 1 bar on a standard MY97 with no problems without AFR but at the end of the day its up to you, I'm not aware of anyone yet who has had mixture problems with dawes but thats not to say it won't ever happen.

I'm running the Dawes ar 1.1 bar on a MY99 and all is fine, nice and rich. 16Psi seems about right - 1.15 bar??? The fuel cut off on a MY99+ is around 1.25 bar so stay under that, but fuelling seems fine as these cars run quite rich anyway. I'm also running a full decat exhaust and ITG Filter. 266bhp and 257 torque

Did anyone order the Dawes AFR meter ? I'm thinking of ordering it at the same time as the MBC. Any feedback on ease of fitting would be appreciated !
Thanks,
