Question

New wheels and new brakes should be fitted in near future, so that should help the ol blackbeast look and stop a bit better than it does now. The downpipe is giving a little more power, well, I think, and I will get it on the rollers at some point.

Now, after a little rest from modding, thus allowing, hopefully, a bit of cash to stockpile I'm going to be wanted to mod some more, and in my mind a logical 'next step' would be a mappable ECU, and, suprise, suprise, the first thing that pops into my mind is a Link ECU. (Motec and Pectal would be nice but mucho dosh, and too mucho dosh for me!)

I know I could just email BRD about this, and probably will, maybe, but thought i'd ask on here as I know many, many people have links, and rate them.

So, now, after the waffling, here's the point

What exactly would the link do for me? the car has HKS induction kit thingy (power flow filter type thing) BPM twindump downpipe and Apexi N1 center and backbox, thus it's cat free, so what benefits would a link give me?

more power? better torque range? other stuff?

I'm pretty sure that BRD can map the link to my requirements, but I'm not sure what my requirements would be (great huh!) more power? better torque (which I think is the real deal, big torque is good, if not better than big bhp)

Also, and I don;t know how many, if any have asked this before, but what disadvantages, if any, would there be to fitting a link. This is apart from me sacrificing more money to the altar of scooby tuning Warranty is not an issue as I don't have any. What about servicing? would my garage need to know anything special about the Link to service the car? I assume not.

What would other systems offer, eg Motec, Pectel, Unichip? Personaly I'd realy only go for a link, cos that's me

John D - Cant really answer that question as I probably caught Branco on an off day, i am sure he is a top bloke. As for Bob, he is a true gentleman in the Scooby world.
My original plan was to have a link fitted at BRD, oweing to a rude, abusive person who answered the phone I took an alternative route saving a few hundred in the process...

Zaz - talk soon.

The link is something m thinking of geting this year myself, and the thought of dealing with rood people turn me off like haivng my nackers caught in my zip

The thought of saving a few hundred quid also is appealing

How much didi you pay for the link? any chance of an e-mail about some info

dont think you can say you caught on a bad day.

what you caught was branko!

couldnt agree more about bob though. A total gentleman and knows his stuff.

Markus.

the link is great, the newer chips really have improved, and with decent mapping (which bob and others can provide) will be unnoticable.

It will allow you to achieve almost 300bhp on standard injectors and more if you uprate to 440s.

it also allows you to achieve bettr fuel consumption by leaning out cruise zones and runnign more ignition.

You will probably find that your car due to its age has a buggered lambda sensor in which case the default setting will cause teh car to run rich for safety, meaning your fuel consumption is already very high.

You could have the car mapped for 95 if you want to save money too, at the expense of performance.

I wouldnt bother with the more expensive ecus. In terms of gains over a standard link the law of diminishing returns applies.

go for it, you wont regret it.

Email me offline if you have any questions and I will do my best to help you out. If I cant I will know a man who can. Dont assume branko will always be difficult, he isnt all bad and does know his stuff. other option is to speak to bob directly, he is always willing to help and has a way of explaining things that even an idiot like me can understand, or at least thats how it feels .

can the other more expensive ECU's not be used in other turbo cars though, which would be good for the sti7,EVO or what ever you get next.

I hate it when I agree 100 % with Adam - especially with his last paragraph

I don't have a Link myself, but I am convinced it's a very good option - if mapped by someone who knows what he is doing. IMHO Bob is indeed not only very generous with his info on this BBS, but is also considered a top Link mapper.

HTH,

Theo

PS: Lord, as you know, this is not meant to oppose your opinions in any way ..

Why is it so bad to agree with me?

I have been wrong, but I wouldn't say I was consistently bad.

Theo, we have agreed before, and no doubt will again. Deal with it.
