Angry HELP! Hub Nuts Sooooooooo Tight

hi again , me and my mate tryed to change the front o/s driveshaft today and spent close to hour and a half trying to get the hub nut off , it would,nt move one tiny bit ,its SOLID.
Folded the thin metal back on nut and sprayed loads of wd40 on it before someone mentions it , its not reverse thread is it , we even heated it up but still no movement ,
anyone had the same problem and how did they get around it.
my mate thinks its been air gunned on by some dipstick before me , should i take it to a garage and pay them to get the ba**ard nut off,
Another question when i finely get the nut off , do i take the wishbone bolt off at the bottom to free strut so i can move it to free driveshaft or remove ball joint on the right of hub , loosen off nut at the suspension arm and fold hub up ?
thanks in advance, doc

You are using a power bar to try and get it off?

It's supposed to be bollock tight.

You either need more weetabix or a longer bar (3/4" drive is best) and it is normal direction thread.

Try and find a scaffold pole and shove over the end of your bar, fingers crossed it holds.....

as said you should be able to undo it, there not that tight just watch though with that much pressure on it you dont slip and take out the wing aswell

Hmmm,
I did this about 20 years ago with a Mini Metro. I had to split the nut eventually with a cold chisel and a big hammer. At that point I found out that it was reverse threaded, it hadn't even occured to me.

I recently had one that would not come off, no matter what leverage was put on it. Impact gun wouldnt remove it. 3/4 inch bar and 8 ft scoffold wouldnt remove it.

In the end, the hub was coming off because it was knackered, i took the hub an shaft off as one, and took it to my mates, who through the use of a gas axe and a 1" Truck Impact gun, it came off the drive shaft after 30 minutes!

Others have just popped off with bar or impact gun!

Just remove the lower strut ball joint nut off the bottom of the wishbone so the wishbone can be forced down and the hub can be pulled forward.

I had a very stubborn shaft nut on my 911 and had to drill/split it open and unscrewed then almost by hand!
I made sure I had a spare nut first though.

Daft as it might sound, sometimes if you try to do it UP TIGHTER first it can crack the rust before unscrewing.

Evening peeps. I'm his mate that tried getting the nut off . In 10 years working on cars i've never seen a nut so stubborn. Somebody has over torqued this nut. We were using a 2ft breaker bar. Even with the car on all 4 wheels the front wheel lifted off the floor and the nut wouldn't budge. I've got a 5ft bar off my jack, we'll give that a go. If that fails the nut will be drilled off.

Worst case scenario is the end of the CV joint gets mullered but I suspect the bearings in it may be worn anyway.
Must've been the same garage that welded the stainless steel wheel bolt to my alloy wheel that fitted this hub nut. I had to cut the damn wheel off because they over torqued the bolt and welded it to the wheel yet the thread came out of the hub by hand

Should be done up to 150 ftlb from memory, mine needed a proper impact wrench to get it off, a breakers bar wouldn't move it.

BIG THANKS to all the members who gave me advise on doing my driveshaft and removing hub nut , once the hub nut was loose doing the driveshaft was dead easy , took me and terryvx about a hour and half (if that) to complete the job ,
note to jamiemiller , bottom ball joint was easy because we had a joint splitter with out that it would of been a nightmere , thanks again
