Default jdm/uk engines

a 2003 sti engine from a uk car that has adjustable valve timing, would this engine work ok in a JDM car that has a damaged engine and what downfalls would there be if any??? if it were fitted into a JDM car

Steve, should be a straight swap if there both 03 cars, later JDM cars had different inlet manifolds, no tumbler delete manifolds. I've had both 03 JDM & UK and they were identical externally.

Cheers

2003 JDM Sti is twin scroll turbo type - UK 2003 isn't. The basic engine will fit and run Ok if you use all the original manifolds and so on.

Try and retain the JDM heads and cams Steve, even if it means fitting new valves, (not expensive when you know where to shop ) they are much better than the UK of the same year. Bottom end is not as critical, if it's screwed get a 2.5

The head casting may be the same as a UK of that year ? Not too expensive for a new bare casting I believe. JDM cams/followers etc are worth retaining

I can confirm Andy's thoughts, have had both heads off a UK & JDM STI, the head castings are different, the ports are larger on the JDM version and the followers are considerably bigger in diameter than the uk ones.
