New age plug in ECU compatability, UK/JDM/US, MoTeC, Autronic
As title, can anyone outline what are the available plug in ECUs that run speed density on the new age cars, and what the compatability is between say MY01/02, 03/04, 05, 06, UK WRX and STi and JDM STi?
Autronic?
M800 plug and play?
Hydra?
Do ECUs designed for US cars work on UK or JDM models?

M800 plug and play (or generic) will do all of those with comfort, whats wrong with the oem box though John, just as good unless you want the trick stuff (als etc) and if you have a JDM STi map switch code has launch control in it and in gear wastegate compensation. Maf issues are almost irrelevent on new age, and rescaled in a 80mm tube plenty of head room even for me.

Thanks guys. Is it only the US STi that is drive by wire now? Ecutek is out as I would have to buy the software which is not economical for a single car, and I still think I would have MAF issues based on what the US guys are getting with rotated Garretts - they seem to be placing corrugated tubes between the MAF and turbo, and also pinching down the diameter of their 4" inlets which seems a shame, with the wind blast and ported shroud trouble I had with the MAF I can't see it working as nicely as speed density - the MAF voltage was higher on lift off than when on the throttle LOL. Maybe I could go blow through but it is a bit experimental on Subarus for now. I could run a 20G as T-uk is trying to convince me of A Crawford stroker with a 30R should give a nice power band though, and good response even on the heavier car.
Are the plugs compatible between the years and models then? I hear some OEM ECUs can be programmed on the "wrong" car, just won't start the car. Otherwise there would be a myriad of models for plug in ECUs if they were all different?

The AUtronic plug in is certainly okay for 2001-2004 at the moment. The fly by wire is coming, provided there are only minor changes, they are incorporated using jumpers on the board to switch things like the cam or crank sensors. The SM4 (on which the latest plug in units is based on) will support the fly by wire throttle, and cam control.

John I also have read about the problems the USA has but there are ways around that without restricting anything, I have had mine running using a GDB maf which produces a far lower output for the same load, the maf barrel ended up looking "interesting" to say the least but it worked. By this weekend I should have a "proper" solution I hope.
Still would go for the Motec, does everything you would need right now, definately avoid Gems if I were you.
Andy know what you mean ... lol

I like the autronic, just dont particuarly like the software.
M800 is too pricey once you add wideband and other options.
Good thing about the SM2/4 is its not subaru specific so can go on my next car

The only problem with the Autronic software is you use the Esc key to go back to the last screen all the time and my laptops on/off key is only 2mm away.
Apart from that its great.

Paul,
Your absolutley correct.. I know its a windows app that they have made look like the DOS version, but FFS the save dialog box is appauling.. and double click the title bar and see what happens if you try and restore the window (iirc).
I was doing beta testing on the windows software and none of the faults I reported got fixed..
The trace window is a nice (ish) feature, but you cant change the default screen ooh:
And as for developing windows applications, the following book is actually quite good (I have it too!!) http://www.microsoft.com/mspress/nor.../book11588.htm

Those little software quirks haven't ever stopped me mapping, in fact they make it easier because I need to use the mouse less when mapping in the car.
For the same reasons, I would argue that the MoTeC DOS software for the M48 Pro is easier to map with than the Windows version.
