Default Sti 3 Clutch

My clutch was slipping in 5th when I bought the car, after a week of fun it's now slipping in 4th and 5th, so Im guessing it won't be long before the other 3 gears start slipping.

So...

How much am I looking at to replace the clutch, parts and average labour costs, inc VAT ?

Also what spec am I looking for, the car is std, apart from filter and zaust.

Cheers in advance

I have the same base spec car.
Change that clutch before the flywheel is done for...

I now have an AP Organic clutch with 407 x 350 engine, raced regularly, and road driven too. Clutch is realy nice and very OE in feel.
If you are staying stock on the engine, the Sti clutch is rather good too!

Be warned, a bitch of a job.

Clutch = £350 ish
Labour about £200/300 if they have to fight the box coming off.

Graham.

ok, had a quote of £150 to fit the clutch, so now I need to know where to get a clutch from and what type I should go for.

Cheers

Certainly is, a M8 of mine has his own garage and as he has done 5 scooby clutches in the last month, he said he has managed to get them done pretty quickly now

You can get an AP from all the decent specialist suppliers, or call AP and ask for the nearest one to the (very cheap) garage. What a bargain!

OR you could join the group buy for an Exedy Performance Organic at APi Engines. 3 part clutch that takes 400 hp at £250.00 and an exchange lightened flywheel [7Kg] at £120.00.

There's one happening now on the group buy forum.

Call us on 01926 614333 if you want in.

Whats the score with the flywheel ? I mean what benifits does it give over the std sti flywheel ?

By lightening the flywheel you reduce the weight of the rotating parts of the engine - by 5Kg in our case. When it weighs less, it takes less effort to move it, so the engine spins free-er. It helps the spool up of the turbo and thus you get punch from lower down the rev band.

Good cheap mod that actually shows a benefit. ALSO, it is likely that your flywheel has cracks in it [ from the slipping and general wear ] and you will have to do something about it anyway. Makes sense to improve it at no extra cost - in real terms.

What can I say man! you get what you pay for!! and the government want their share........ I've seen and heard of quotes of £700 plus from Subaru dealers to fit a clutch that is not as substantial as ours - and then fob the owner off when it judders.

You'll get clutches offered at less than £100 on here GOOD LUCK !

Second what Graham says and that's a bloody good price too. My AP organic was £350 last October just for the bits.

Shame, I don't drink coffee so no use for a cappuccino machine
