Im trying to change the Oil in the rear diff but i cant get the filler or the drain plug out and i dont want to force them as it might lead to damage.so what shall i do?

 

Got the same problem mate, my advice is take it to a garage with a ramp and ask them to loosen it for you, you dont want to be cross threading anything ! Cant charge you more the a fiver hey....Im waiting to do mine as soon as I get the bolts loosened..

 

jack car up. Place socket bar in oil drain plug and on floor. Lower car. drain plug un done!

Just make sure if you do it the above way that you put the bar the correct way.

But as mentioned a 1/2" ratchet fits.. failing that an impact gun.

It does feel like you are going to break it !!
If you use a ½” drive swivel bar and either as posted lower jack, or just give it a good swing, you get to the toe curling point of “oh my god its going to snap" but you get a loud crack as it breaks the thread lock stuff they use in the factory.

Filling it is fun too, I found a little devise produced by draper (think it cost a couple of quid) that’s like a little plastic bellow type hand pump, piece of pipe into either end. One end in oil the other in the diff and then you squeeze the bellow bit and hey presto!!!!.
It’s also good for changing the power steering fluid (kit comes with plenty of hose)

so is it clockwise or anti-clockwise to unscrew the bugger (classic sti) and thats 0.8 litres of Castrol Syntrax Driveline 75-90 semi synthetic ?? just confirming ...didnt get time to take it to Garage :-(

 

anti clockwise, 1 litre to fill it IIRC

ive now got the plugs out useing the way thet Ian said. somthing that you need to do whilst droping the car is to hold the T bar in the plug coz if it slips out you could trash the plug the there is no getting it out.
