Default STI v5 Intercooler differences from MY99 UK - Photos

As there has been some recent correspondence on the advantage of fitting an STI v5 i/c to a classic, I have taken some photos of the 2 together. These show the physical differences:
1. Better pipework from turbo, and
2. Larger plenum chamber.

They 'other' i/c is off my UK MY99, just replaced by the STI v5.

As I cannot post images, I can only email to anyone interested (neil@winterhalder.co.uk). Perhaps someone with the approporiate clearance can post them up?

Pics as promised..... is there any height difference between the 2 ?
i.e is the STi one deeper, as per APS TMIC.

Does it make any difference to the performance?

Cheers

The cores look identical, no difference in height. But you can see how they will flow better. As well as the better piping underneath, the additional plenum (collector box) volume seen in the top right (top left in shot of underside) should distribute airflow better to the right hand side of the matrix (it is cut away on the standard one and will restrict flow down that side).

Mate I bought it off measured 1psi more boost (at the manifold) compared to standard UK MY2000 (same as mine). This indicates 1psi less pressure drop across the i/c. Someone clever could calculate the resulting power/torque improvements. I doubt if it is noticeable except perhaps on an RR or stopwatch. There was another thread recently in which others claimed improved flow and performance.

Looks better too.

Fitting Samco's to a standard intercooler would negate the benefit of the STi pipes tho'
