Also known as the 'MAF killer' ! Imprezas dont benefit from induction kits; certain model year cars have weak mass airflow meters too so the useless induction kit wont only make a lot of noise for no return, but itll kill your engine.....

Don't want to teach you to suck eggs so sorry if you're aware, but do you know of the potential dangers in fitting an I/K ? Unless you've already uprated various bits and are acheiving over 350bhp then there is little point except the noise and brag factor. If you don't fit suitable cold air supplies to it, you may even reduce power by increasing induction temperatures by sucking in hot engine bay air. Also, 98-00 cars have very delicate MAF sensors, and the excessive vibrations of an I/K may kill it in a couple of weeks, at £100+ a time. If you're pretty much standard, you'd be better with a good lifetime replacement panel from K&N, Green or JR Racing, or the disposable STi paper one. A good mod for the induction is to remove the resonator box in the O/S wing. This will allow you to hear induction a bit like an I/K and the standard DV venting back into the system, similar to a BOV.

i got told the same, don't put an induction kit on the car mate. i've got the same year 2000 classic shape, just changed the maf sensor yesterday. engine was fluttering between 800rpm & 1000rpm when idle. changed the maf sensor all cured perfect . an induction kit is not worth your pride & joy

Agree with Stevehulluk, exhaust is 1st option when chasing power. It's still worth a good panel filter, and look into the resonator removal, but the exhaust us where you'll initially find more power.

Id be very careful removing all of the cats too unless youre having the ECU remapped. A full de-cat without a re-map will likely cause large boost spikes.

Agree, new BB no problem, but for big increases a decat must go hand in hand with a remap. I'd recommend leaving one highflow sportscat to get through MOT & roadside testing, which is rumoured to be on the increase

Should be ok to decat a MY00 WRX initially wihtout a remap. Just ensure you use optimax and OB.

Bob, again there are technical reasons why

What makes more power? Completely depends how its fitted, asoociated mods, cold air feeds, what ECU you're running etc. More often than not they sap torque.

For example, if you chose to fit an APS induction kit without a remap, your engine would be in bits within weeks.

Ive got a HKS supa mega flow Ind' kit with a HKS Supa Dreger exhaust(de cat) and a PE phase one remap and it runs as sweet as a nut.....however before the re map i nearly killed the engine and it used to feel like it was running on porridge not petrol!!
So if you are intent on getting the boootiful sucking noise from your engine,as i was, get the exhaust and re map aswell( funds allowing of cause).

Gav.
