Question Just a thought for the Engine Masters.....

In 911 circles, the flat 6 engine is very similar to the Impreza unit.

Porsche fitted oil squirters to spray oil onto the underside of the piston to cool it. The 911 engine realy is reliant on oil to cool (mine holds 15 ltres of the stuff).
The squirters are machined into the thick webs that brace the bottom of the block right next to the con rod.
To release extra power the keen guys (I did mine 10 years ago) shape the thick webs into a 'V', sharp edge facing the piston.
This allows the air pushed down by the piston to be displaced with minimum resistance and reach the piston rising on the other side of the block. This air shuffles across the engine internals repeatedly of course.

Proven to gain 10 bhp.

iirc some subaru engines do have it. I think the EJ22t has squirters.

I fitted the Porsche squirters, but didn't go as far as V'ing the webs. Main reason was my builder - I was all ready for improving return airflow as much as possible and fitting oil scrapers. He wasn't keen.....and he's the boss, quite frankly

Full details at http://bbs.22b.com/cgi-bin/ultimateb...2;t=000011;p=1 - a *very* extracted build, hope to fit the new fuel lines during January!

Interesting concept....
My only thought would be that the EJ series engines need as much strength in the support of the block as possible IMHO.

People do this mod on 500 bhp 911 Turbo's, but the block internals have to be seen....webs everywhere.
Reading the 911 bible again (Bruce Anderson's book) shows all the detail.

I dreamed of fitting an electric pump Paul, but it's taking me long enough just to get the thing finished. Are you running, or have knowledge of, a vacuum pump set-up then?

You could use Hydrogen , very low windage losses, we use it in our alternators at work.

Should be a fun mod

the blowby even in normal operation will quickly disperse any gas in the crank case, so don't have any

Can you reasonably achieve a vacume (of sorts) in a crankcase?
What do the Formula One boys use?
All that air shifting from one cylinder to the next at 18,000 rpm is hard to grasp.
