Default Fitting Of EGT Sensor ?????

Hello All

After having Gems ECU fitted with Antilag on My93 WRX with FMIC and other mods and now running 343 BHP with 330 lB Torque after some very long spirited driving I have ended up with a rather red turbo and downpipe when I popped the bonnet in the dark.

So I think its time I fitted an EGT sensor and gauge.....

I have a Scoobysport downpipe which has a plug in it 3 inches away from Turbo connection. I take it this was prolly used for lamba sensor on later version, So would this be a suitable place for fitting of the EGT sensor and a, I right in thinking the thread would be M18 x 1.5?

The gauge I have looked at comes with a 1/8 NPT Sensor, So i'm going to have to fit an adaptor. I see demon tweeks do a m18/1.5 to 1/8npt adaptor, but this looks like its made from brass?? Will this be ok with the high temps involved.

Also the other question I have is what is the normal EGT temp and what is the Max I can go to. I.E I should stop booting it when it gets to ??? degrees c

Any info, advice etc will be appreciated

Cheers

Rob

egt on the downpipe is too far of the headers,
maximum egt with not forged pistons is about 850 degres ,and 950 with forged

So I need to fit EGT sensor on one of the exhaust manifolds then, is there by chance a place allready there to fit it or is it a drill and tap job??

Few places I took it reckoned as close to turbo as possible??????

Is it normal for the turbo be glowing red after a spirited drive, not a dull red at all, quite spangly ...

Easiest way is to move your lambda sensor from your headers to the downpipe, then fit the EGT gauge in the old lamda position. The wiring is just long enough for it to fit without extending.

Scoobymania also do a M18 x 1.5 blanking plug, which either they or you can drill and tap the thread for the EGT sensor.

Aha, Sounds like a good plan..... So the lamba reading from top of downpipe is ok then ... Spose so, thats where the mapper was putting his in!!!

So just to confirm thread in header is same as one in downpipe 18 x 1.5mm

Cheers for the advice m8

Ordered a greddy kit today, So will fit at weekend.....

Have been advised by dealer and my mapper to fit it behind the turbo in downpipe, Said ok you get a slightly lower reading, but these EGT probes have been known to break and disintegrate and if its in the header it will go through up pipe and into turbo, if its in the downpipe it cant do any damage

What you all reckon?

as i am aware, greddy probes are 10x100.but it is not a problem: you drill and tap the 18x150 screw
