Red face Erratic Idling and stalling - help!

I have just had my 67,500 mile service done and the car is now idling in an erratic fashion. It goes up to 1,200 revs and then drops to zero, then shoots up to 1,200 and so on... Also, when I come to a junction or have to stop for some reason the engine almost stalls when I depress the clutch?!!!

It's an MY00 + PPP.

Has my MAF finally gone t!ts up? Can I still drive the car?

Mark.

it might be the air idle control valve which may need cleaning its quite common.

I occasionally get that and it clears up by itself... I think it's unlikely to be the MAF as my MAF is only a year old and I have no induction mods or anything likely to upset it.

It will be lambda or MAF. If neither have been replaced at that mileage, I would be replacing both. The lambda can pay for itself pretty quick as a duff one will impact your MPG quite a bit.

If it is MAF, then its advisale to drive off boost until its replaced.

ECU reset once you've replaced the bits.

agreed with DBM above.
this has got MAF or Lambda written all over it.
MAF will be about £75 from Subaru, Lambda (o2) can be bought as a pattern part for about £30.
for about a ton, you wont believe how much better your car will feel or how much better fuel economy you'll get.
it will be money well spent.
do an ecu reset after fitting though.

I don't get that. My lambda was replaced at the same time as my maf.

Must be the air idle control valve on mine, then. I'll be having it looked at on tuesday, so I'll let you know what the diagnosis was.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm off to the Dealers tomorrow - hopefully the parts will be replaced for free as part of the Subaru Extended Warranty! The car's only done 36,000 miles...

Cool

Just been to the Dealers and the MAF has been replaced under warranty. All I can say is Oh My God! I don't know what's happened but the car is going like **** off a shovel. The MAF has obviously been affecting the car for a while...

Got my scoob back from the 90k service tonight. The erratic idling turned out to be a faulty lambda sensor. I've only had that on for about 20,000 miles! The chap who's done the service (my nephew) reckons they're only good for 25k miles tops, anyway. As he put it: "That's something they don't put on your service book". A bit rich at £75 a pop.

Masn't gramble though... the whole service- including lambda but excluding plugs because they were done out of sequence -came to £320.00. It's not what you know....
