Do Exedy make non-uprated clutches?

BOB'5, Exedy make all clutches of all sorts. It is possible to get a standard one, anywhere from about £100 [ trade price] for the cheapo motor factor type of thing. We use them from time to time when customers budgets won't stretch further.
They work fine and we've not had any problems.

The Organic performance clutch has much stronger springs in the friction disc [ huge great things that look purposeful ] and a high brassy metal content amongst the stringy stuff in the friction material. [ Deliberately untechnical ]
I could not tell the difference in the cover as it will be in the strength of the diaphragm spring and thats not easy to see, as it might just be something as simple as a repositioning of the fulcrum of the assembly or it might be a thicker material, or then some other devilish way.
There are no obvious numbers on anything that I have seen that would point to a different spec.
I suppose it would be easy for someone on Ebay or one of the Subaru BBS's to sell a standard cheap one as an uprated one. To that end, l would only say, that if you buy one from a reputable dealer such as us, or any other high profile Subaru specialist you will get the right thing, elsewhere you will have to take a chance.
Does the seller [ to you ] have a receipt from where he got it??

So if i compare the clutch plate springs to the old OE one I should be able to tell if its uprated?
I already have the clutch but will ask the seller if he has a reciept. Doubtful though.
Maybe take it down to my local exedy dealer and compare it?

You could put the clutch in a hydraulic press and test it that way, need to compare it with another of known capability. A small brake disc from Halfords is sometimes needed to mate the surface to the hydraulic press. A lot of garages have hydraulic presses, sometimes of dubious accuracy though.

I don't have an alternative to offer though. It's a tricky one.

Agree, it isn't ideal, Questmead can get AP to check but it takes 3 weeks. The press I tried went about 1/3 of the way around its scale and was fairly repeatable. It did suggest the that aftermarket one I had did not have substantially different clamping force to the OEM one.
