Question APS Front mount hose question

I've got a split hose on my APS dr500 front mount. Its the useless one that comes straight from the turbo and then onto the cast pipe. I've had nothing but hassle from it since being fitted its not long enough and is about the same quality that you would find on a ford cortina!

Well its finally split now and obviously the car runs like a bag a ****e on boost! So does anyone know where or if i can get a better quality hose. Its about 6"s long with a bend and is about 50mm diameter at the turbo end and 60mm at the cast pipe end!

Hi Scott,

I've had the same problems as you with that hose & I've replaced it now. APS talked to me like I was it was an impossibility when I called their tech dept in Australia at least six months ago

In the short term you are welcome to borrow my original hose, if it splits it's no big deal.

My solution was not straightforward. I tried Samco as I have replaced all of my other DR500 hoses with Samco but, understandably, due to them not having a tool for the odd shape of that outlet hose it was going to be too expensive.

I have the hard pipes - I know some were supplied with silicone. I cut about 70mm out of the straight section that runs parallel with the bulkhead then had it welded together again. I then machined a stainless reducer that takes the APS outlet pipe down to accept a Samco 50/51mm 45* bend and had this welded on where the flared end is on the APS pipe. The standard length 45* bend suits just fine.

The pipes have now been powder coated again and are ready to be reinstalled but during a dummy try the hose now has a really solid connection on both the compressor outlet and the modified pipe and the flow 'looks' OK. One niggle is that I had also to have a hard water pipe that comes out from under the inlet manifold rewelded at a different angle as it was fouling the Samco hose.

PS I did try just extending the compressor outlet with length of alloy but, on it's own, this did not work and has proven to be unnecessary after the above mod.

I have come to the same sort of conclusion myself, gonna order a 51mm elbow, 50mm-60mm straight reducer and a 51mm alloy joiner and see where i'm at. Then cut and shut to suit

a little bit more hacking, cutting, drilling won't make much difference

This is my solution, an improvement in performance too!

What i bought was a 50mm 45 degree elbow, 50mm alloy joiner( that i got ported/smoothed), 60mm - 50mm straight reducer, 60mm alloy joiner and a 60mm 45degree elbow.

I cut the samco's so they went to 60mm as short as possible and cut the reducer so when the 60mm joiner slots in that it goes up as tight as possible in the reducer so that it gets a-smooth-a-flow as possible. Then i basically cut the APS metal pipes and Samco to suit!

Hi Scott,

Well done on solving the problem so quickly

I like the secondary fuel source A bit of unconventional thinking to feed your car Red Bull rather than, NF, methanol or NOS. I guessed the 2.5 would need more fuel but never thought about incorporating antilag via carbon dioxide

Callum, Its holding boost better now and maybe a bit too much! Its holding 1.6bar instead of 1.5 at the moment, so maybe a tad too much for the 05/06 on a 2.5
