Default Tight pulling out of 3rd gear.

I have a Bugeye and have noticed lately that sometime when I change up or down from 3rd it is very hard to get it out of gear.

All the rest are fine so presumably not clutch......

Have to give it a good hard yank sometimes and it seems worse if the car is warm/being driven hard.

Any ideas what it might be? Some adjustment required or is the box shagged?

Its a JDM WRX Wagon that has done 43K miles.

Cheers,

Rob.

Rob, that's exactly what I get sometimes, very scary when it happens, usually in hot weather and when driving in 'spirited' fashion. Mine is an 02 WRX (UK) and it only does this every so often. It's been looked at by the dealer but nothing found.

Strangely, I noticed that when I've had this and checking oil levels etc my engine oil was just off the stick. I can't see how this has anything to do with it but seems to. If it was a Mini I'd understand it.

The good news is that I've had this very occasionally for the last 25k, I'm now at 68k so fingers crossed you'll be ok!

BTW, how's your oil consumption?

Sorry not to have any answers but I don't think that it's terminal, I hope!!!!

Nice to know the box is probably not about to go bang

Done around 5K miles since I bought the car with no noticeable oil consumption.

I can certainly live with it, so I'll let it go unless it gets noticeably worse.

Cheers,

Rob.

check the gearbox oil level (dipstick next to intercooler on drivers side) and consider replacing the gearbox oil for castrol syntrax or redline shock proof..

Cheers, will do.

Up for a 45K service in 1.5K miles so will make sure the gearbox oil is changed even if the schedule doesn't call for it.
