Default loud whinning noise from 80+

I know its a stab in the dark, but,
when cruising along at around 80 the car is fine but when I put my foot down in 5th there is a loudish whinning/grinding sort of sound, it might do it in other gears/speeds but I can only tell (full decat) when cruising,
its too loud to be the turbo spooling up, unless there is something wrong with it,
only had the car a couple of days now, hense the reason I'm a little bit worried about it

My complete guess would be the input bearing on the gearbox. Does the noise increase if you push the gearstick further while in gear?

It could be one of two things.

Try moving from 2nd to 3rd gear.

If this doesn't fix it try leaving the misses at home. That was the source of my whining over 80.

Had mine in for a look at this issue @ SGT (>95 rumbling, ocurrs in 4th and 5th) and they suspect a dinged Propshaft (possible on my car).

Need to take it in for a donor swap to test.

Pain int' ****.

its like a light grinding sort of sound thet only comes or goes with the use of the throttle, it sounds daft but its not really a speed related thing its more to do with the amount of power used, like if i cruise at 85 its fine but if I floor it in 5th at 80 then the noise comes at about 85

Could be turbo related then. Amount of spool being used under power. Maybe check the oil feeds to it are clear.

Thinking more it could also be a leaking dump valve. It may not be shutting off under boost. The chatter may be oscillating at a level where it is a mechanical whine.

If not mechanically minded you should have someone else check the oil feeds or you will get dirty and grumpy.
