Thumbs up May need a new ECU Which is best? MY98

Hi,

After talking to Power Engineering, they say they may not be able to re-map my standard ecu for new mods. This will leave me looking for a complete replacement unit Link, Gems, Motec, Apexi or similar.

I would like to know if you are using any of the above what you think of it and would you have gone another route if you had the chance again?

How much did you pay Fitted and mapped?
Which out of the above would you choose and why?
How much is a further mapping session if other mods are carried out?
Was you car mapped on road or rollers?

Wink

Mark,

It wasn't part of the group buy, but I went ahead with it because I was told at the time that it was remappable for any future mods, now that time has come they don't seem to keen. If I had known this then I would have gone a different route.

Anyone using an Apexi PowerFC? does it work without a separate boost controller, Dont want the dash to look like the Starship enterprise.

Anyone using Gems? whats it like?

George

Why cant they remap the ECU (again)? as this would be the logical and cheapest option!! - if you've had it done once then presumably the large amount - i.e. the license fee has been covered...........

Motec is too expensive..... Gems and Link are very much the same - the important aspect is who you get to map it

Dont mess with Fuel/Boost controllers - they will not give a smooth ride, or the most power.......... been there..done that..

Fangoria, I think George is referring to the AVC-R boost controller, that allows differing boost levels in each gear - which I believe that the FC will interface with, but does not HAVE to....

I've had the same issue as George, PE's daughter board system (for 97/98mys) is the system fitted to my car - around 600 quid in a gb on here in Feb (for me). Unfortunately, I've done a few mods since and its quite expensive to have it re-mapped. (i.e. about the same again)

I've realised that I'm the sort of owner who changes the spec often, so need to find a system that is cheaper to re-map - which is why I'm going for the power FC system.

I must add that I've been more than happy with the PE system till now - only when I've done further mods has it become an issue.

Contact Andy Forrest and discuss the Apexi Power F.C. for around £700 fitted and mapped. Retains the MAF sensor but otherwise has a lot going for it and there are several cars with very good results using this ECU.
